How to become an IPS officer after 10th

 

Becoming an IPS (Indian Police Service) officer is a prestigious and challenging career path in India. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to become an IPS officer after completing your 10th standard:

Education  Complete your secondary education (Class 10) from a recognized board. Ensure you perform well academically as this will be the foundation for your further studies.

Higher Secondary Education (10+2) After completing your 10th standard, pursue higher secondary education (10+2) in any stream (Science, Commerce, or Arts) from a recognized board. Maintain a good academic record during this phase.

Bachelor’s Degree   Complete a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university. While there is no specific requirement for the subject of study, many aspirants choose subjects related to law, public administration, or social sciences to gain relevant knowledge and skills.

Appear for the Civil Services Examination (CSE)   The IPS officers are recruited through the Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) of India. The CSE consists of three stages:

Preliminary Examination  This is an objective-type exam consisting of two papers – General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II (CSAT). Clearing this stage qualifies you for the Mains examination.

Main Examination    This stage comprises nine papers, including Essay, General Studies (Paper I to Paper IV), and Optional Subject Papers (two papers)

Interview (Personality Test)  Candidates who qualify the Main Examination are called for an interview conducted by the UPSC board. The interview assesses the candidate’s personality, communication skills, and suitability for the civil services.

Choose IPS as Preference   While filling out the application form for the Civil Services Examination, candidates need to indicate their preference for the Indian Police Service (IPS) among the various civil services offered.

Clear the Medical Examination and Physical Fitness Test   Candidates who qualify the UPSC examination are required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. They must also meet the physical fitness standards set by the IPS cadre.

Training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA)    After selection, candidates undergo training at the SVPNPA located in Hyderabad, Telangana. The training period includes both academic and physical training to prepare candidates for their roles as IPS officers.

Appointment as IPS Officer   Upon successful completion of training, candidates are appointed as IPS officers and are assigned to various cadres across the country based on vacancies and requirements.
