According to several election experts, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to secure a comfortable victory in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, paving the way for them to form a government for the third consecutive time. If these predictions hold true and the psephologists’ forecasts are accurate on June 4th, it would mark a significant milestone for BJP stalwart Narendra Modi. He would match the unbeaten record set by Congress icon Jawaharlal Nehru, achieving the distinction of serving as the Prime Minister of India thrice in succession. In a recent interview on Friday, PM Modi addressed this topic.
Asked about Nehru, the Prime Minister remarked that the comparison between them should focus on how much progress India has made during his tenure since 2014.
PM Modi further asserted that with the blessings of India’s 1.4 billion people, he might win the Lok Sabha elections for the BJP not just thrice, but possibly five times or even seven times. “Modi will win thrice, five times, or even seven times. I have the blessings of 1.4 billion people of India, so this momentum will continue,” PM Modi expressed in an interview with NDTV. Narendra Modi
Jawaharlal Nehru, the father of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother Indira Gandhi, held the position of Prime Minister for the longest period in Indian history, governing from 1947 to 1964. He led the Congress party to victory in three consecutive general elections: 1951-1952, 1957, and 1962.
Taking a jibe at the Congress, PM Modi quipped that if they were in power, they might have named Chandrayaan-3’s touchdown point after the Gandhi family, rather than Shiv Shakti. Narendra Modi
In the 2019 general elections, the BJP secured a landslide victory by winning 303 Lok Sabha seats, the highest ever achieved by any party since the Congress. The party-led NDA alliance surpassed the 350-mark. Looking ahead to 2024, PM Modi and the BJP have set an ambitious target of securing 400-plus seats for the alliance.
