JoJo Siwa reacts to ‘SNL’ pocking her new edgy look 2024
“Saturday Night Live” made fun of JoJo Siwa’s new look during its May 4 show — and the former “Dance Moms” star enjoyed the joke.
Chloe Fineman plays Siwa in the show’s Weekend Update segment. They recreated the “Karma” singer in her shiny black ensemble, face paint, hairstyle and dance moves from the steamy music video that accompanied her debut single.
“Yeah, Collin, I’m a bad girl now,” Feyneman says with a wide laugh, flashing rock on hand symbols.
While imitating JoJo Siwa’s voice, Fineman explained to Colin Jost that the new look represented a “pretty big change”.
“I used to be Rainbow Sparkles, and now, I’m Black Sparkles. I look like a figure skater joined a street gang,” she said.
Fineman said she is now in her “bad girl era The sketch also attacked Siwa’s viral comments, in which she told Billboard that she was “making a new kind of new music… called ‘gay pop’.” The quote immediately raised eyebrows among some pop musicians in the LGBTQ+ community. (Siva later clarified that he wanted “gay pop artists” to have a “big home” on the music charts.)
“But JoJo, you were quoted as saying that you invented a new type of music?” Jost said.
“Yeah, right – gay pop,” Feynman responded.
“I think that’s probably just pop,” Jost responded, laughing.
The skit poked fun at Siwa’s current look and her original “8-year-old” character. But the former child actor called it “idealistic.”
“I literally don’t know what to say. This is fucking crazy. 3 and a half minute skit on SNL…” Siwa wrote alongside a clip on her Instagram Story.
Siwa first hinted at her new look at the iHeart Radio Music Awards on April 1. A few days later, they released their new song, “Karma,” accompanied by a dramatic and edgy music video.
Siwa began her career on “Dance Moms” and recently appeared in Lifetime’s reunion special in 2019, five years after the show concluded. In that special, former dancers and their mothers returned together.
